UOL Buys MyPoints for $56 Million; Classmates.com Buys Opobox For $10 Million

The first news just came out, the second one we missed from last month: ISP and online media company United Online (UOL), the parent of Classmates.com, has purchased loyalty player MyPoints.com from United Airlines for $56 million in cash. UAL originally purchased MyPoints.com for $113 million, in 2001. MyPoints rewards its 1.4 million active members with points for online activity. In 2005, MyPoints brought in $38.4 million in revenues, reporting operating income of $2.4 million. More details in the release here.
Also, we missed this one last month: Classmates.com bought out Opobox, which operates The Names Database for approximately $10 million in cash. The Names Database is a social networking service and says it has approximately 50,000 pay subscribers and is expected to generate less than a million dollars in revenues in 2006.
