The number of 3G mobile subscribers is likely to grow faster in China and is expected to touch 84.2 million in three years after its launch, according to research firm Norson (Hong Kong) Information Technology. It predicts that China will have 5.5 million 3G subscribers within the first 12 months of its launch, which will grow to 21.9 million by the end of the second year and 84.2 million by the end of the third year.
The uptake of 3G services by subscribers is expected to closely follow the rate of adoption for 2G services, Norson said. China has 404 million mobile subscribers at the end of February, according to China’s Ministry of Information Industry. The Chinese government may issue 3G licenses later this year. [More here]
