Asia is on a digital music piracy combat mode. Singapore-based Soundbuzz, an online and mobile music distributor, has developed a solution to fight digital music piracy, which is being rolled out across Asia. The solution’s based on an architecture called OMA Version 1 (developed by Open Mobile Alliance) – a set of standards for digital-rights management agreed upon by a consortium of mobile operators.
“Basically this software forms a wrapper around a music snippet when it is downloaded to a phone and that wrapper interacts with the firmware in the phone disallowing it from being shared thus protecting the music from getting distributed illegally or without authorization,” said Sudhanshu Sarronwala, CEO, Soundbuzz, which has tied up with almost all major Asian telcos and digital music distributors. It has already been introduced in Singapore and Australia, and is now being rollout in India. [Via The National Ledger]
