Revver Gets $8.7 Million

Revver, an online video uploading and sharing service, has received $8.7 million in second round funding. The round was led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, joined by Bessemer Venture Partners, Draper Richards and William Randolph Hearst III.
Revver has a twist on other video sharing sites like YouTube, Vimeo and countless others: it inserts advertising in the uploaded/user clips…it inserts code into the video itself that adds a small ad every time it is viewed, even if the video is downloaded and distributed from another site. That allows the company to update the ads in real time, and keep close track of how often the file is being used. Revver splits the revenue for each ad equally with the content creator.
The service launched in November. With additional funding, the company hopes to take the service out of beta by May.
