Mobile Gaming Via TV

Modojo: I tried out the Airplay service at the Mobile Focus event at CTIA — it’s pretty good. A simple user interface allows you predict what happens on TV…I tried the American Football game which gets players to predict what the next play will be, pass or run, where and how far. I know next to nothing about American Football so I pressed buttons pretty much at random. Airplay’s game gives you a cumulative score based on how accurate your predictions are. Of course, this is a very social game, the whole point being to compete with your buddies to see who is the best at the predictions — as proven by an actual score rather than convoluted bouts of drunken reasoning.
This is an interview with AirPlay CEO Morgan Guenther which covers a few interesting areas, including all the technological hurdles involved, such as network latency and the latency of viewing on different mediums. But as a general philosophy: “We view mobile entertainment as an opportunity to augment other mediums, not to replace them.”
