(reg. req.) VC firm Austin Ventures is bankrolling former Bankrate CEO (and a a Bloomberg veteran) with $50 million to build an information-services business based in New York City. Elisabeth DeMarse will be heading DeMarseCo, and will build the new company through acquisitions and in-house development, looking for opportunities in digital information and traditional media — including TV, radio and book and magazine publishing — as well as new media.
Austin has funded two other such rollup firms in other verticals…DeMarseCo will pursue small companies that don’t yet meet the hyper-growth requirements of some private-equity firms, Demarse said.
(Elisabeth is around at the BSEC conference I am at in Scottsdale and will get some more info on it from her tomorrow)
