Discovery Communications has outlined its plans in broadband and mobile arena:
— It plans to launch two broadband video channels on April 15 tied to two of its networks: Discovery Channel Beyond and Travel Channel Beyond. Original and short-form repurposed content, ad-supported. Will also accept user-generated content.
— Three other broadband channels for TLC, Animal Planet and Discovery Health Channel will launch in the near future.
— Will launch Discovery Mobile during Q3. The 24-hour ‘network’ will feature original content specifically geared for mobile. Much of the content will be geared around specific destinations, including major urban areas.
— A tie up with Google Earth: Users of Google’s satellite-mapping software can now view streaming video clips pegged to popular landmarks and destinations, courtesy of Discovery.
