Cricket: Zee Bags Neutral Venue Media Rights For $ 219.15 million

Indiantelevision.com: Subhash Chandra’s Zee Telefilms has secured the winning bid for the rights for the cricket matches on neutral venues (non-ICC member countries) for $219.15 million. This translates into an average of $ 8.77 million per match for 25 matches spread over the next five years.
Zee Telefilms also becomes the rights holder for radio and broadband in non ICC member countries where matches may be played.
Business Standard reports that it will get another Rs 2,000 crore ($450 million) from the sale of other rights, including hotel, travel and ground sponsorship. All told, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will gain revenues of $1 billion. In February, Nimbus Communications won the global rights for international cricket matches played in India for $612 million.
The other bidders in the fray for the overseas rights were ESPN Star Sports (disqualified for bidding below the floor price), Nimbus and Sahara One Media & Entertainment.
