Mobile content industry is maturing. In February, India’s oldest industry body FICCI formed an association for gaming and animation companies. It’s called Indian Games Industry and Trade Association or iGITA. Now another leading industry association, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has formed a Mobile Value Added Services (VAS) Task force.
The Mobile VAS group is chaired by Vishal Gondal, CEO of Indiagames, and its members include Pankaj Sethi of Tata Telecom, Krishna Durbha of Reliance Communication, Rahul Shah of IL&FS Investment Managers, Arun Gupta of Mauj, Neeraj Roy of Hungama, Viren Popli of Star TV, Chirag Shah of Cornershop Entertainment (an Essel group company), besides others. Others like Airtel, Hutch, MTNL, Walt Disney, Rajshri, Carlyle Group and JM Equity are also part of this group.
The idea is to bring together the content providers, network operators, media companies, handset manufacturers, technology providers under one platform, says a release. The group is working on a white paper to create awareness among stakeholders on Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Copyright issues. An industry report on the sector is on the anvil with KPMG as the knowledge partner. The group will host an annual summit, networking dinners and showcase new business opportunities in the Mobile VAS sector. [More here]
