Amidst growing pressure to cut costs and become more competitive, Vodafone has unveiled a new organizational structure that includeds plans to break into key telecoms services that combine fixed and mobile networks.
The three new divisions: a European division; another containing its assets in emerging markets and other affiliates; and a third targeting “new business and innovation.” The new business unit will focus on converged and IP services to tap new revenue streams and will be run by Vodafone CTO Thomas Geitner.
FT: Sarin’s decision to parcel its minority investments, such as its stakes in Verizon Wireless of the US, SFR in France and China Mobile, in the emerging markets division had some shareholders wondering whether the move was a precursor to further disposals.
