The Senior Product Manager for SEO is responsible for identifying and executing on Search Engine Optimization tactics that will maximize search engine referrals to the Time Inc. brands. The Senior Product Manager, SEO, is also responsible for monitoring the ongoing ranking of sites in the major search engines and identifying any issues, key areas of improvement, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with key strategic sites throughout Time Inc. to improve search engine visibility. This includes:
– Determining current status of visibility in
major search engines (document count, ranking
on key search terms, current number of
referrals from search engines, etc.) as a point
of comparison
– Partnering with sites and TII management to set
goals for SEO improvement
– Identifying critical SEO tactics most likely to
maximize search engine visibility and meet SEO
goals; identify those pages within a site that
should get the most SEO attention
– Working with editors to choose keywords, terms,
etc. that are most likely to drive referrals
(based on top search terms and focus of site)
– Working with product development managers,
editors and producers to execute on recommended
SEO tactics
– Monitoring site’s performance after launch of
improvements, comparing to pre-SEO visibility
to ensure goals were met
– Prioritize key SEO tactics according to biggest bang for the buck
– Partner with technology team to identify and implement any global enhancements that impact SEO (e.g. changing redirects from 302s to 301s, ensuring ontology tool modifications are approached in a way to optimize keywords for SEO, etc.)
– Work with product teams to identify search engine goals and appropriate SEO tactics for new products, site features, etc.
– Produce regular reports on search engine performance across the Time Inc. sites [metrics include referrals from search engines, document count, ranking on key terms, etc.], as well as lessons learned and case studies.
– Conduct regular audits of sites to ensure SEO best practices are being met; follow-up with appropriate parties on any needed areas of improvement
– Troubleshoot issues as they arise
– Document and evangelize basic SEO principles and practices to site editors, developers, product development managers, and others in the organization. Work to make SEO a top-of-mind consideration in day-to-day production and any new product development
– Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts at the major search engines.
– Cultivate relationships with SEO experts within and outside Time Warner (at AOL, e.g.)
– Stay abreast of industry trends in SEO, especially changes to search engine algothrims/policies/procedures/etc. that could positively or negatively influence current Time Inc. SEO practices
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Proven ability to create clear, detailed, concise documentation.
– Able to communicate complex technical concepts and ideas in a simple, organized business language to clients and management.
– Must have strong organizational and time management skills
– Must be self-directed and highly motivated
– Must be able to multi-task
– Keen eye for details yet can grasp the larger picture
– Must be an enthusiastic team player and also a confident leader
– Must be able to work with a variety of personality types
– Should have a strong understanding of web production environments, scripting languages, and content management systems.
– Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Visio
– Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Sybase, JSP and Java
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
– 7+ years product management experience. 3+ years experience in a web development environment (at least two years in consumer-facing products). 2+ years SEO experience. Bachelor’s degree in business or information technology preferred. Experience in media/publishing a plus.
