Nothing earth-shattering … a straight-forward look at the trajectory of mobile for Fox. Lucy Hood has played a major role in the growth of mobile entertainment for her company and the industry since her first CTIA back in 2001 and a “Planet of the Apes” deal with Club Nokia. Today, Fox has its own mobile storefront, Mobizzo, aimed at the 57 percent of teenagers and 81 percent of college students who own cell phones. She says, the cell phone is “starting to look like television; it’s never off. … We believe that mass media drives viral adoption.” Some highlights:
— The Fox mobisodes have hit the 1 million-download milestone. There are four series in six languages in 25 countries.
— “Advertising is an extraordinary opportunity for us all. … It’s (also) a creative challenge. You can’t put a 30-second spot on a 60-second mobisode. It just won’t work.”
— Coming up: More flagship Fox properties expressed as channels.
