While a KPMG survey recently said that Asians may not pay premium for mobile content, here is a survey which says Asians prefer mobile phones with multimedia and rich-data functions. According to research firm In-Stat, the share of such phones is rapidly increasing in the Asia Pacific region. More than half of the 252.3 million mobile phones shipped in the region in 2005 had camera functions, said the market research firm, and what has aided the growth is the plummeting prices of such models in emerging markets.
By 2009, 67% of mobile phones sold in the Asia-Pacific region will have camera functionality, while 37.3% will be able to play music, said In-Stat. By 2009, the music phones are likely to be in direct competition with stand-alone music players, In-Stat said.
