The Financial Express: Indian railways is getting its cyberact together. VSNL and Sify have bagged the contracts to run cybercafes at 82 railway stations. VSNL will run cybercafes at a majority of the 82 stations, followed by Sify. VSNL has bagged all the 17 stations in the eastern region. These cybercafes are franchised out by RailTel Corp of India Ltd, which plans to set up another 270 cybercafes next year.
The company also plans to get National Long Distance licences and set up a franchisee network for providing broadband Internet and VPN services. In the eastern region, RailTail has signed an agreement with Kolkata-based Descon Ltd to provide services like Internet, VPN, and VoIP.
