Data Price Cuts To Spur Digital Downloads

“A reduction in the cost of music over mobile phones should prompt a more dramatic change in the share of music sales by format, and we expect that a fifth of music sales will be distributed digitally by the end of 2006″, said Jolyon Barker, head of Deloitte’s technology, media and telecoms practice.
He refered by the recent move by Vodafone to offer cheaper wholesale data packages. Ovum also reported that this was a general offering of data for 30p per Mb and suggested that other carriers would follow suit, also that it was good news for mobile music.
Meanwhile, Barker said that Vodafone’s move would lead to an increase in the number of music stores, and there would soon be specialty stores targeting niche audiences.
