The Financial Express: This article makes a point that India is still sleeping on its 3G policy which will make its mobile TV adoption slower, while the world at large is going ahead with mobile TV plans. Germany’s Debitel is planning to implement Korea’s terrestrial digital mobile broadcasting, to start with, in eight cities in May. Vodafone Germany is also aiming a 2007-launch.
But India is not doing anything about it. Although the technology issues are still being sorted out, it may make sense for the government and the regulatory body, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, to put in a policy framework that would not hold back advanced mobile services like mobile TV. However, as of now the operators’ focus is to reach the hinterland with the basic mobile services rather than investing in advanced value added services like mobile TV.
