The AP Online Video Network joint venture with MSN Video has at least 500 outlets, not bad for a service that’s only been available since March 1 and isn’t technologically compatible across the board given its IE reliance. In contrast, youth-oriented ASAP launched in the fall has been picked up by about 200 media outlets — newspapers, alt-weeklies, etc.
Poynter’s Rick Edmonds looks at APOVN in the first of a two-part series on AP’s new media ventures, writing: “The nascent video news service captures AP’s big business challenge in miniature. Ultimately it will succeed or languish depending on strength of content and user-friendly delivery.”
