Mobile Publishing Moves, Maxim And Poker

There’s a couple of mobile publishing announcements today…Maxim will make its May issue mobile, “with links in the pages to content and advertisements accessible by readers’ mobile phones”. It’s not the first to do this of course, but Rob Gregory, Maxim’s group publisher, pointed out that the magazines readship is mostly young males — the first to adopt new technology. Content will include more photos of Maxim models, the opportunity to enter contests, service pieces about how readers can use mobile phones in new ways, as well as a swath of mobie-enabled ads from Kraft Foods, Jeep, Samsung and Cingular. It seems to be a test issue — the format isn’t set but the publisher is definitely planning to do more mobile stuff in the future.
Pocket PokerThere’s also a new mobile poker magazine out, Pocket Poker. This is launched by MobVision, and will “feature a wealth of poker information and top poker brands such as The Hendon Mob, Pokernews.com, and WPT”. The content will include reports from tournaments, tips on playing poker, a section on “tells”, and an “Ask The Hendon Mob” Q&A section.
There’s likely to be more publishers going mobile in the near future…
