John McClure, country head, Intel technologies India Pvt Ltd.
Technology and the entertainment industry have converged. Media companies are looking at different platforms to showcase their content. Direct-to-Home (DTH), IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), digital cable and television content on mobile phones are some of them. Today, a lot of digital content production gets outsourced and India has a great opportunity to be a leader in this outsourced production Industry. India has already proved itself as the back office of the world and needs to cash in on this movement too.
If we look at the emerging picture, distribution models are changing for cable and satellite. Portals are interested in becoming internet broadcasters and the content business models are fast changing. Intel has joined hands with Zee TV for optimizing content. Essel Group has launched a new digital media initiative, called Digital Media Convergence Ltd – in partnership with Intel. This is to create, acquire and distribute digital content in India. Intel’s Viiv technology is going to be useful for this.
We are looking out for other partners too, says McClure. Intel can provide a good base as it is the leading digital entertainment company with a standard base approach. It can also help by investing and has alliance with world-wide companies, studio, portals and network operators. To India, Intel is offering its learnings from being a global company and they want India to take the digital entertainment leap ahead.
