It is MTV vs Chum in Canada, an interesting multi-platform fight to watch out for…MTV is relaunching in Canada with local broadcaster CTV (CTV is owned by Bell Globemedia).
CTV’s “MTV Overdrive” product will be delivered to Canadians across a range of platforms, including conventional and specialty channels, cell phones and VOD. In fact, MTV.ca’s homepage is Overdrive, unlike say MTV.com.
It will compete with rival broadcaster Chum, which dominates the Canadian youth and music TV market with its MuchMusic-branded channels. The fight will be on the digital media front: Chum’s latest digital pursuits include podcasting its local 6 p.m. TV news and offering free online episodes of its current reality TV series to pick a new on-air VJ.
