Mobile Gaming Still Suffers From ‘Entry Barrier’ — Square Enix

Square Enix president Daishiro Okada said at the Games Developers Conference that most people still have a mental block when it comes to playing games on mobile phones, and this is holding back the industry. “The way to combat this, Okada believes, is to “develop more killer apps and ‘it’ games which customers are willing to spend money on.” Which game company isn’t trying to do this?
Some interesting states from Square Enix…apparently there are some Panasonic mobiles which can play the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy mobile games, and 47% of people who own those handsets have played at least one of the games. “In addition, Okada claimed, 40% said they purchased the handset specifically because of the games available for it — meaning Square Enix games actually helped to boost handset sales and subscription takeups.” Of course, he didn’t give the figure of how many handsets have been sold…
