The broadband/video technology/vendor space is getting consolidated and I know of at least three more which are on the block. Anyway, VideoEgg, itself a startup which just received funding recently, is buying out online video publisher and distributor Popcast.
VideoEgg’s service is a small browser plug-in that makes it easy for end-users to capture, edit, encode, and post digital video online. Meanwhile, until now, users of Popcast’s Flash-based “Open Access Internet TV” could broadcast video channels to Popcast, but it seems like Popcast as a destination site will go away (and for good reason…too many me-too sites and competition out there like YouTube, Revver, Vimeo, Veoh and others). Under the terms of the agreement, Popcast’s 1.0 technologies will be made available under the GPL and Popcast.com will become the administration domain for the code base.
