Sounds like AT&T Chairman AND CEO Ed Whitacre spent much of his TelecomNEXT time trying to turn back some of the intense response to comments he’s made in the past year about the probability of premium net access. Those oft-stated views combined with the just-completed meger with AT&T and the planned merger with SBC have given lots of people the yips. He insists those concerns are invalid. A sample: “There’s been a lot of talk about this in order to scare people into thinking that access to the Internet is somehow at risk, or that the Internet as we know it is a thing of the past. AT&T will not block anyone’s access to the public Internet, nor will we degrade anyone’s quality of service.”
