Microsoft has landed its largest European contract for IPTV services and its second-largest worldwide: Deutsche Telekom will use the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition platform to deliver IPTV across Germany. The deal includes joint marketing and marketing by DT to raise the p[rofile of IPTV in Germany.
The service will be delivered over the new 3 billion euro VDSL network being extended by DT’s T-Com unit with bandwidth up to 50 mbps — enough for four concurrent high-def streams. Plans call for a mid-spring launch to 10 major German cities. VDSL expansion to another 40 cities is planned by the end of 2007.
