Kid Social Network Industrious Kid Gets $6 Million

Industrious Kid, an Emeryville, CA-based social networking startup focused on elementary school students, has received $6 million in first round funding from a group of undisclosed individuals. The company is using the round, which closed last fall, to finish development of its first offering, imbee.com, which it plans to launch in May.

Imbee is designed to offer a safe place for kids as young as 8 and 9 years old to create blogs and chat with friends. Imbee will have a rigorous screening process to ensure that users are who they say they are, and will also be a closed site not accessible by the larger Web.

Revenue model: Some of which users will probably pay for. Imbee will not open itself up to advertising initially.

People who have little or no handle on consumer are getting funded, or offering funding. Designing high-end switches and getting kids to switch from MySpace – two entirely different tasks.”
