Brightcove Acquires MetaStories

Brightcove, the online video publishing and delivery startup, rich from its recent funding, has bought out Seattle-based rival MetaStories.

MetaStories has been around for a while, since 2000, and has customers such as Yahoo, MSN, USAToday.com, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, and Scripps Networks. The company’s rich media publishing system, beyond just video, will complement Brightcove’s service, CEO Jeremy Allaire said. A particularly interesting tool which MetaStories has is a self service rich-media advertising creation tool, which will help Brightcove’s service.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition. All MetaStories employees, totaling ten, will join Brightcove and remain in the Seattle location.

Expect to see some other rollups happening in the broadband video publishing vendor space in the near future…
