This is a bizarre case. Naukri.com has a TV commercial on air in which an employee helps his boss order for pizza over the telephone. The boss’ first name is “Hari” which the executive at the pizza joint couldn’t understand. The employee chips in to help the boss. He takes the phone and explains – “H for Hitler, A for Arrogant, R for Rascal and I for Idiot.” The ad is catchy since it ended saying Naukri would help the employee find a new job.
But this ad has put Naukri into trouble now. A boy from Chandigarh in Punjab has sent a legal notice to Naukri for claiming damages to the tune of Rs 1 crore ($220,000) for allegedly showing a part of his name in bad light. The notice, sent by Aneesh Bhanot on behalf of his 11-year old son Hari Bhanot, said that the advertisement is “totally insensitive to the name Hari”, and has casued mental agony as many of Hari’s friends started poking fun at him. Besides seeking the withdrawal of the advertisement, the notice also wanted a public apology from the web site and Rs 1 crore as damages or else would have to face criminal and civil proceedings, the notice said.
