Corbis, the digital image company owned by Bill Gates, is moving rapidly into the mobile arena, as its recent hires have illustrated, and Gates is bullish on the mobile future. He says in this story: “The mobile phone market has been a great sales generator for Corbis…It is almost retro that we are now seeing a market growing up around this digital gallery that was the original intention of the company,” Gates said.
CEO Steve Davis said the company’s share of mobile phone services grew by 100 percent in 2005, but didn’t say how much money it generated. Mark Sherman, Corbis’ senior VP for services and emerging businesses, later said mobile is a multi-million dollar business for Corbis.
