Comstock’s Stock Rises

comstock1.jpgBeth Comstock, the top digital media honcho at NBC Universal, has seen her profile rise in the company, especially now in light of the iVillage acquisition. Couple of stories:

iVillage puts exec on the map: Her first task is substantial: to integrate iVillage into the conglom’s hodgepodge of digital media assets, including the Web sites for all its various cable channels and properties, NBC’s mobile initiatives, and content businesses like the “Today” show and the network, which will supply video to the site. Also, NBC’s substantial deals with iTunes and defining a strategy behind free video…None of GE’s content businesses report to her — including the myriad websites for channels like Bravo and Sci Fi — so her success will depend on pulling these disparate units together — then getting credit for the results.

Another interview: The NBC Web site will evolve more around core entertainment programming. For example, take the experience that’s expanded for The Office. That makes most sense to continue on platforms like NBC.com. That’s not to say The Office might not also have a place on iVillage, but it would be a different, more tailored, more customized experience to that community.

Moving Into the iVillage: Now Comstock and her team must roll more NBC content into iVillage and bulk up the brand. She talks about funneling onto the site video clips of “Today,” or outtakes from Bravo’s “Project Runway.”
