Executive Shake-up Continues At Vodafone

Peter Bamford, chief marketing officer and board member of Vodafone, will step down on April 1st, following a number of other high-profile company members to leave (the sinking ship).
“According to the Wall Street Journal, Bamford was ousted because he was considered a member of Vodafone’s “old guard” under former chief executive Chris Gent; Gent, who retired in July 2003 from the board, has reportedly clashed with his successor, chief executive officer Arun Sarin. However, a company spokesperson told Dow Jones Newswires that Bamford’s exit was linked to an ongoing overall review of the company’s group marketing function. Bamford had been a board member since 1998.”
Vodafone is busy trying to get back on track after a … disappointing … few years. To that end it’s selling its failed Japanese operations to SoftBank and written off 28 billion pounds relating to the Mannesman acquistion in 2000 to get its books in order for an increasingly competitive global market.
