– IPTV Will Be No Big Money-Spinner, Says BT: That’s a shocker: While BT Entertainment CEO Andrew Burke felt that they were encouraging signs in the UK market that could give IPTV a fighting chance there were still some worrying unknowns. “We don’t know how much to bid for content,” he said. “We don’t know the size of the market.”
– IPTV and its Discontents: ISPs present at the IPTV Forum in London give the impression that they are on the back foot when it comes to coaxing content out of the major providers.
– Content is a Demanding King: It is not always easy for smaller ISPs to get access to the right content. Though distributors like Fox say that they do not have a “hurdle number” for the subscriber base that an ISP must have, the smaller players beg to differ. “Content providers often want minimum guarantees – and large ones,” says Richard Ayers, portal director at Tiscali UK.
– Fastweb: TV Not the Carrot for Triple Play: To gain market share and the high ARPU, Paolo Agostinelli, Fastweb’s CMO, stresses the need to first offer a very competitive voice and internet access service with perceived value – it is only then can you hope to reel in the even higher ARPU triple-play subscribers who use TV.
– TV Can Work for Telcos: IPTV is “still not a licence to print money”.
