Digital Home Firm Sharpcast Gets $13.5 Million Funding

SharpCast, a Palo Alto, CA.-based developer of a wireless software platform to help move digital content across the home, has received $13.5 million in second round funding. Sigma Partners led the investment, with first round investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Selby Venture Partners participating.

With Sharpcast services, a person’s PC and mobile phone work together automatically to keep all of their media and information in sync, backed up on the web and instantly accessible, the compay says. The company’s first service, Sharpcast photos, will launch in beta later this spring.

Red Herring: The company has a close competitor in Seattle-based Vizrea, which has also released a photo-focused media-sharing tool. Mr. Strong sees competition in Visto and Intellisync, which was recently acquired by Nokia, among enterprise-focused companies.
