Benq — which got a leg-up in the mobile handset business last year when it bought Siemens — has signed a deal with Google to embed a number of Google applications on its handsets, running through the phone’s menu system so the user won’t need to use a handset which supports a full browser. Interesting spin by ZDNet Uk…the stories written as if Google has graciously allowed Benq to embed its applications after hard and desperate lobbying by the handset manufacturer, when it’s really web services companies like Google and Yahoo which are desperate to lock in operators.
Benq also launched six new phones under the BenQ-Siemens brand, which I think is a little unwieldy. Call it Benq or Siemens or something else, but don’t hyphenate it.
