(sub. req) Voice SMS company Kirusa has closed $11 million insecond round from Columbia Capital and Sigma Partners, reports VentureWire.
The Edison, NJ-based firm has developed a voice SMS app, whose description by the company is a bit confusing, but anyway: a user can send an SMS message simply by dialing *, followed by the recipient’s phone number, without typing the message on a small mobile keypad (I’m assuming this means you speak out the text message, which is delivered as an attachement/MMS). An SMS is delivered to the recipient, without having the phone ring.
This seems like a solution for users who do not know how to write or find typing into a keypad too cumbersome. Among Kirusa’s customers is GrameenPhone, the operator in Bangladesh owned by Telenor, with more than five million subscribers.
