I’m back from London..didn’t stay for the rather-insular FT New Media and Broadcasting Conference, but Jemima’s doing the honors on Journalism.co.uk..day one coverage:
– FT 2006: BBC hints at charges for international web users: BBC Worldwide’s director of strategy and new media David Moody said that the interest in on-demand services and the potential to build stronger relationships with users made this “the right time to look at commercialising international traffic to BBC.co.uk”.
– FT 2006: It’s an evolution not a big bang, says Channel 4 head: By 2012, on-demand viewing will account for a quarter of Channel 4’s audience.
– FT 2006: Media should focus on community, not technology, says Wikipedia founder:
Asked if traditional media would be squeezed out by the proliferation of user-generated content, Wales repeated that: “everybody makes jokes, but we still need professional comedians.”
– Portals plan to share costs: From MAd.co.uk: European ISPs also want fee from content owners for using their network..the tiered Internet debate raging in U.S. right now.
