AOL Open Up AIM To Outside Developers

AOL’s learning fast: it is opening up its market-leading IM service AIM, through a new site, Developers.AIM.com, that will enable software designers to create their own versions of AIM. AOL also will make available plugins to the upcoming AIM Triton–the latest IM product from AOL, currently in beta testing.

The opening of the AIM code will not, however, open AOL’s network for interoperability between other companies’ services, such as Yahoo Messenger or Google Talk.
