Consumers To Embrace World Cup Content — For The Right Price

FIFA World Cup 2006 LogoCeon (a provider of proven service fulfilment software for
next generation IP-based services) has commissioned a survey by NOP of 800 people on their attitudes to the FIFA World Cup (go Aussies). It seems people are keen (or at least willing) to get content and updates on their mobile phones. Of respondents in the 15-34 age bracket, more than half (52%) would consider receiving instant SMS updates on scores on their mobile phone to stay up to date on the games and results (8% used the service at the last world cup) while 31% would consider watching video footage or clips of when their team scores (7% used the service last time). Of course, this is with the rider “if the price is right”.

These are the survey results that were sent to MocoNews:
(For all respondents) Other than voicemail, which, if any of the following additional services do you use?
SMS — 71%
Games — 27%
Ringtones — 32%
Picture Messaging — 32%
Internet — 27%
Music Radio — 24%
Mobile TV — 3%
Just Make Calls — 84%
None of These — 2%
(The “Just Make Calls” result is strange, considering that most of those people send SMS, another option. As is “None of These”…if “Just Make Calls” was an option does that mean that 2% of people don’t use their mobile for anything?)

(For 15-34 Year Olds) Which of the following would you consider using in order to keep up to date with World Cup games and results, if they are all available and the price was right?
Footage of goals sent to your phone — 31%
SMS message updates — 52%
The internet — 54%
Watching TV — 72%
Listening to the Radio — 64%
Read the Newspapers — 70%
