A French DVB-H trial has revealed interest in mobile TV — the positive trials and research are slowly beginning to outweigh the negative trials and research. That being said there were four trials launched in France last year and this appears to be the result from only one.
The 500 participants watched mobile TV an average of 20 minutes per day…50% in their house, 14% while travelling (although there wasn’t much metro coverage) and 12% in the workplace. They mostly watched “news, music, entertainment, sport, documentaries and, for the Canal Plus testers, films”. 73% said they were fairly or very satisfied with the service and 68% said they would be prepared to take out a subscription for 7 euros per month.
UPDATE: In its 20-F annual regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Nokia predicted that mobile TV would be commercialised “in 2006 … mobile TV is expected to become available in select markets and to reach mass market by 2008.”
