Earnings: Charter Continues To Improve

Charter Communications, another part of Paul Allen’s Wired World concept, tells a better story for 4Q05 than 4Q04 but it’s going to be very hard for the company’s new executive team led by CEO Neil Smit, a former senior AOL exec, to overcome the vast debt. Acording to Janco Partners analyst Matthew Harrigan, the company still carries debt load nine times greater than its earnings before taxes.
Charter raised $896 million with the sale of subs in four states, part of an effort not only for the balance sheet but to focus attention on delivering a bundle with telephone.
