Reuters Tech, Media, Telecom Summit: Free TiVo, Consumer Cisco, Wireless iPod Dreams

Interesting stories from the Reuters Tech, Media & Telecom Summit:TiVo may give away set-top boxes-CEO: My first response was a shrug; after all, consumers have been able to use rebates for free or nearly free TiVos for a while. (On the site now: An 80-hour box is $69 after a $150 rebate; a 12-month subscription gets you a free refurbished box.) But CEO Tom Rogers is talking about offering free boxes as part of more expensive or long-term subscription plans. A test could begin soon. Rogers: “As much as we do get skepticism about our future, there are over 4 million TiVo subscribers — that number is growing. We feel that the notion that TiVo has hit some kind of distribution wall and is no longer a growth animal is not the case.”
