US-based Third Channel Communications has joined hands with Hungama Mobile to provide Hollywood and Western-style content to cell phone subscribers in India and South Asia. “We chose to partner with Hungama Mobile because of their large footprint in the region,” said Terry Balagia, Partner, Third Channel. “Third Channel is the brand for Western content on mobile devices, and our partnership with Hungama will solidify our presence in the Indian marketplace and beyond.” Third Channel announced its intention to move into the Indian market back in May last year, and this seems to be the first deal it has made.
The launch content currently available on Indian carriers Hutch and Tata is 10, 20, and 30 second high-fashion and music video clips available for download to user’s cell phones and will soon expand to include movie trailers, sports highlights, TV, music, animation, and mobile games. “We’ve had offers to go with any one of a dozen western content providers but found Third Channel much further vested into new media than others North America,” said Neeraj Roy, Managing Director and CEO of Hungama(via our sister site ContentSutra)
