VON Magazine: US-based NMS Communications, a leading provider of technology to mobile applications and infrastructure technology companies, is buying Bangalore-based Openera for $16.4 million in stock.
Openera extends NMS’s mobile applications capabilities out to the mobile handsets. Openera will also provide NMS with a footprint in India, as it operates a facility in Bangalore. “Doing business in India has its challenges,” NMS CEO Bob Schechter commented. “They can move faster. It’s far away. It’s much more price competitive. Operators are looking for you to put skin in the game.”
Subscribers in these newly emerging markets – and the mobile operators – look for content-based and/or community-based applications. “They’ve evolved incredibly rapidly in their appetites for value-added services.”
