R&B star Craig David gave a talk at 3GSM about how he uses mobile phones and how they relate to his work…kind of like P. Diddy at CTIA but with more complete sentences…
He uses the phone as a note pad: “It has become something for me to create music, to lay down stuff, ideas and songs onto my phone like a dictaphone then I can go back into my studio and use the ideas.”
And completely unsurprisingly he likes the advent of real tones because he can “edit my own ring tones so it maintains the integrity of my music”.
There is also some insight into the popularity of Crazy Frog, and perhaps a hint of how to have a successful ringtone: “With the Crazy Frog, it was so heavily played. The way that the English public are, if it is slightly annoying everyone gets it.”
All in all, this article is a great look at mobile music from the side of the musician rather than the side of the mobile industry, a good peek into the other side…”I am here as someone who uses the phone not only for creating, but also to say there are limitations, and to see where we can merge the two together, music and mobile. There has never been a complete link between the two.”
