2006 Edgies (Online Newspapers) Awards: Winners

Newspaper Association of America’s new media conference, Connections, is starting in Orlando this week (as part of the bigger NAA Marketing Conference). Along with that, the yearly new media awards for the online newspapers, the Edgies, were given out earlier today.

Interesting winners in the “visitor participation” (meaning sites which have developed a community): In the 50,000 and under circulation group, the winner was BlufftonToday.com. In the next circulation group, Bakotopia from The Bakersfield Californian won. And the winner in the 250,000 and greater circulation group was Azcentral.com.

Best overall news site in large sites: finalists were: Boston.com, MySanAntonio.com, NYTimes.com and washingtonpost.com. And WaPo won.

Online Innovator Award: Went to Lisa DeSisto, VP of advertising, The Boston Globe.
