Our detailed cricket rights coverage continues: Here is an update on the digital media rights for cricket. The Economic Times reports that the board has retained the rights for mobile/SMS and IPTV. However, the tenders for the digital media (excluding broadband which is already given out in the current bid) will be announced very soon.
On the issue of SMS of cricket scores by mobile service providers, Lalit Modi, Vice President, BCCI, contests that since the telecom service providers charge their subscribers for cricket scores and news related to cricket, then the board is justified to sell the rights to them since the property belongs to it. -
