So this finally has to move out of the wish-list category, and go into the planning stage. We have been mulling a UK-specific site for some time now, covering the growing activity in the online, broadband and mobile content space. And then, of course, I am British and have emotional attachment to London. Back in early 2004, I launched the “European Digital Media Weekly” and closed it after a couple of months because of lack of resources (it was only me then) and also because the dream of one European market is what it is, a dream.
We already cover the UK digital content scene on our sites (paidContent.org’s UK/Europe section) and Moconews.net’s UK/Europe section). But we think there’s enough activity to merit a dedicated venture.
Anyway, I will be in London first week of March, speaking at the OPA Global Forum (Disclaimer: They’re also advertising the event on our site, and paying for part of my accommodation there). I’d like to meet with you if you’re interested in working together on the editorial and/or business. So ping me and we’ll see if we can get schedules to match while I’m there.
An update on the planned London mixer: We’ll not be doing it this time — too much travel in the next two weeks to pull it off (including the Seattle mixer next week). But I do want to thank everyone who e-mailed suggestions, and specially thank the Ministry of Sound people (and their mobile partners AEI Mobile) who offered their VIP Lounge for free. We’ll do it very soon.
