MTV & MTV2: Vice President, Brand & Consumer Insights/Research & Planning, NYC

The Vice President of Brand and Consumer Insights is responsible for the creation and implementation of all brand and consumer research across the entire spectrum of MTV brand and the communication of those insights throughout the organization. The VP will partner with clients to understand the challenges of each specific business and design creative research solutions to inform strategic business decisions. As the audience is constantly evolving, the VP is also responsible for “painting the picture” of today’s youth and educating management of relevant trends and shifts in behavior to ensure that we are always leaders in the youth market.

Specific Responsibilities:

– Develop, implement, manage, and communicate all brand insights for MTV, MTV2, mtvU, and MTV.com

– Be the music expert:

– Understand youth’s emotional connection with music and shifts in genre/sound preferences.

—- Know the dynamics of how technology is changing music discovery and the mechanics around when, where, how, and why music is accessed.

—- Track where MTV fits into the competitive music landscape, identify opportunities, and communicate these insights across the organization.

– Recruit and manage external partners and suppliers to undertake necessary research studies required to fulfill business needs.

– Create and field ground breaking youth audience studies to inform business decisions and ensure that MTV remains the leader in understanding the youth market.

– Implement and communicate usability testing for all emerging media ventures including MTV.com, VOD, and MTV’s broadband service, Overdrive.

– Manage and partner with press to craft our research press strategy for both the consumer and trade press, as it pertains to youth culture and the MTV brands.

– Support ad sales and partner with ad sales research teams to ensure all consumer and brand insights are leveraged in both upfront and scatter markets.

– Manage, nurture and build the current staff’s knowledge and expertise.

– This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Research & Planning MTVN

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– 10-15 years of media/market research experience.

– Strong analytic skills and a broad range of methodologies (including but not limited to focus groups, ethnographies, telephone surveys, online surveys, brand & media tracking tools, on-site event studies, category immersions, polls, and syndicated sources).

– Highly organized, ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

– Expert problem solver.

– Excellent communication and presentation skills.

– Must be able to communicate insights to senior level management, both inside the organization and to external clients.

– Proficient with Word, Excel and Powerpoint
