While we still suffer the interminably boring coverage from NBC (both on TV and online), Tim Westcott from Screen Digest tells me that in UK, the BBC is carrying five channels of live streamed coverage on the web. It’s not available outside the UK but it’s free (apart from the BBC license fee…and of course, supported by license fee, not ad dollars like NBC’s efforts) of course. This in a country which only wins a medal every other Winter Olympics…Streaming rate is 224 kbits. More details here.
France Television is also streaming the event live – it’s free if you are in France but…is also available outside France on a pay basis (this I have to check..that would be strange if IOC allows this).
Updated: Another reader Diane Bryhn informs us that in Norway, it is also being shown live online: The Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) offers Internet TV with various subscriptions. You can subscribe for live access of the Olympics for about $5 (kr79) and for complete access of the Olympics for $25 (KR. 179).
