I have some nostalgic interest in this: eMeta was our first ever advertiser, back in 2002 when I started (this homepage snapshot from Archive.org), and has advertised on and off over the years with us. The NYC-based content payments and rights access control company eMeta has been bought out by DRM company Macrovision, for $35 million. eMeta will do about $10 million in revenues in 2006, the company said in the conference call.
This gives Macrovision an entry into online digital distribution segment, adding to its physical format DRM side (CD and DVD).
Macrovision plans to incorporate the eMeta technology into its solutions for video, music, enterprise software and games publishers.
Also today, Macrovision announced its Q4 earnings today: Q4 net income fell to $4.5 million from $15.8 million a year ago. Excluding restructuring and other charges, Macrovision said its profit rose to $18.5 million. Revenue rose slightly to $61.0 million from $59.6 million as strength in the company’s software business more than offset expected declines in its DVD and other entertainment business
