Industry Giants To Create Mobile Gaming Architecture

One of the biggest challenges with creating mobile games is porting them to all the different devices…now a group of 14 major players have banded together to create a common architecture, the aim of which “is to reduce the level of platform fragmentation which companies creating native code games face, which according to the partners involved, should reduce development costs and provide consumers with more impressive games”.
The 14 partners include Activision, Digital Chocolate, Electronic Arts, Konami, Microsoft, Square Enix, Ideaworks3D, Symbian, MontaVista, Tao Group, Texas Instruments, Nokia, Samsung and SK Telecom.
Some more details about this are here in the official release: Benefits being touted:
— Handset manufacturers can realize higher phone replacement rates, driven by consumers upgrading handsets to improve their gaming experience.
— Mobile operators can benefit from increased revenue through higher value applications, recurring revenue opportunities through subscriptions and reduced churn.
— Consumers will be ensured a consistent, high-quality gaming experience, regardless of the OS and mobile phone model upon which the game is running.
